Five tracks that hit us hard. A dedicated Spotify playlist here.
Teena - ‘Rainbows’
The experimental tone of the track fits the aesthetic perfectly, as Teena’s lyrics dance in and out of emotions, and so does the soundtrack, the indie-pop vibe creating a carefree yet infatuated attitude. The playfulness of ‘Rainbows’ allows Teena’s honesty to shine through, her honeyed vocals throughout the track sway with the experimental soundtrack, gifting the track a groovy tone that shapes it into a Queer anthem. Tracks like ‘Rainbows’ are extremely important, and examples of queer love need to be heard. Teena’s tale on ‘Rainbows’ is a prime example of music that must be heard. (Written By)
littleDNGR - ‘I Love Danger’
They call it cinematic grunge-pop and I love it already! It’s littleDNGR with their new single “I Love Danger” that came out right on time for my summer holidays. It’s that kind of song with very energetic chants and an anthemic chorus that gives you life when you put it on. A great vocal performance from both Grammy and Oscar-nominated songwriters Joshua Bartholomew and Lisa Harriton. They told us that, after working on many projects for others, they wanted to write something exclusively for themselves, so they decided to come together as a duo and release exciting and “dangerous” tracks. Henry Ryeder - ‘Boy Image’
‘Boy Image’ is a sensitive EP that makes you want to close your eyes and deeply immerse in. Each track is atmospheric, with Ryeder’s timeless voice flowing through it. His vocals have a wide range- switching between angelic falsettos and his chest voice, sometimes within moments of one another. The EP also appears to be influenced by the 80s, often using synth-pop melodies and vocal reverb. Another aspect of bedroom pop is rawness and DIY. Track ‘Hey Suicide’ starts with Ryeder saying “Hey Suicide take five”. It also features a pause filled with bird noises, and squeaky guitar. This all gives it a sweet, homemade quality. (Written By)
Maja Kristina - ‘Neighborhood’
You can spot early signs of a pop star in the making. Be it immaculate songwriting, a charming character or a crystalline voice, you can usually tell when you are in front of talent unlike all others. That’s exactly how we felt upon coming across Swedish pop sensation Maja Kristina. Causing a stir pre-pandemic with the single ‘Fake Love’, an EDM-infused banger, the Stockholm artist has been refining her artistry and evolving her style into a more personal and evocative sound reference. Following up on last year’s EP, Kristina is now back with a poignant song, ‘Neighborhood’. Heartfelt and honest, the track offers a glimpse of Maja’s artistry, an intimate look into her artistic sensibility. (Written By)
Joyce Tratnyek - ‘Listening Listening’
Continuing on the ‘young talents’ theme, we are glad to be able to share with you the music of Joyce Tratnyek, 19-year-old singer and songwriter boasting a unique sonic universe, potentially unlike anything else you have ever heard before. Championing a shoegaze-infused rock brand, the artist lays her vocals over a bed of fuzzy, reverberated guitars and grainy soundscapes. Coupled with her poignant songwriting, the results make for one of the most interesting newcomers on the scene today. Following up from her debut single ‘Just Goodnight’ - a fuzzy, ambient-like gem with no drums - Tratnyek returned yesterday with a new record, ‘Listening Listening’. (Written By)
