đł Nurturing Your Mental Health As An Artist
And: Take part in our gigs this spring?; Come to our radio show; Don't forget to submit your music! Bonus: Industry News You Should Care About
YMX here, welcome to our new weekly newsletter! We are buzzing about this new format, which will deliver a ton of content and useful info straight into your inbox: from original articles to gig opportunities, not forgetting educational resources and the latest news in the industry. Thatâs what our community is all about.
This week we are starting with whatâs possibly the most relevant topic around arts, especially in this day and age: the mental wellbeing of artists, especially when it comes to dealing with competition and creativity. London-based artist and industry whiz PILLARS compiled for us a series of tips and strategies about nurturing your mental health as a musician. Hereâs the first part:
Daily Mental Wellbeing
đł âI know that the daily to-do list of a music creator is never-ending. If you're not gigging, you're rehearsing, if you're not releasing, you're writing, if you're not answering emails, you're sending emails, if you're not networking, you're going home and following your connections up, and if youâre not doing any of the aforementioned, youâre likely working a job to fund all of the aforementioned. And don't get me started on the hard drive full of unfinished ideas! But it's worth asking yourself, 'what am I doing for my mental health today?'. Having previously reached a burnout as a result of not asking myself this question daily, I can't recommend practicing this highly enough. It could be as simple as journalling at the end of a busy day, calling a friend outside of your professional circle, cooking something new, taking yourself on a coffee date - whatever it is, as long as it's time away from the busy day and you're able to switch off, you're onto a winner. (And if you think you donât have time to put this into practice, think of it this way - youâll get more done in a smaller amount of time if you have a clear head!)â. - PILLARS
