Five tracks that hit us hard. A dedicated Spotify playlist here.
Emmalee Rainbow - ‘Origin’
Emerging with a debut EP, Emmalee Rainbow was looking to showcase herself as a solo act. She completely reacher her goal, because ‘Origin’ is frankly one of the best records we have heard this month. Boasting tons of character and lyrical prowess coupled with poignant, catchy and relatable choruses, the record contains absolute pop jewels, starting off with the title track and then proceeding to ‘Playing Dead’ and ‘Trust Fall’, each song revealing a different, charming side of the Californian talent. Growing up in Los Angeles, Emmalee Rainbow was immersed in a show-biz environment, thanks to her early activities as a child actor. Having now reached 20 years old, she channels her unique upbringings into a heartfelt EP, sharing pop sensibilities with rock and folk attitude, ending up with a peculiar, instantly recognisable sound. KLEN - ‘Down the Pen’
It is hard to innovate, but one useful strategy could be to give yourself limits. Use different tools, set up things differently. By working within limits, you teach yourself how to think outside the box, exploring new paths and directions. Sort of like KLEN! Hailing from Penryn, UK, KLEN are an innovative rock outfit, championing a unique brand of surf/60s garage, all delivered with unapologetic attitude and strong charisma. Their debut record was released only last week, gifting us ‘Down The Pen’, a cerebral, groovy and upbeat gem that we are confident will be marking the group as one of the hottest newcomers on the scene. What does make KLEN so special? Well, for starters, they feature three guitarists and no bass. Talk about egos in the band eh? Then, their drummer plays standing up, on a minimal kit. (Written By)
7KY, Avonlea - ‘TERRIBLE THINGS’
Talking about innovators, refreshing the new music landscape and experimenting with new structures, sonic formulas and vocal processing, we can safely say they are essential to the industry, and keep things moving forward. Well, we might have just found one of them. Young American producer 7KY seems to have ticked all the boxes, blending the border between pop, electronica and hip-hop. Sharing a certain hyper-pop energy, the artist’s latest effort comes in the form of a superb collaboration with singer and songwriter Avonlea, titled ‘Terrible Things’, resulting in an absolute gem, the kind of track we’d have constantly on repeat. The release is curated by indie label Good Society. (Written By)
Alessia Selini - ‘Time’
We hosted talented newcomer Alessia Selini on our pages before, upon the release of her debut effort ‘Happy Place’. We were so enthusiastic and mesmerised by it, that we defined it as “a gentle, evocative piece of mellow pop”. It really was that good! Today, the Italian talent returns with a new soothing gem, ‘Time’. Continuing on her poignant, emotional artistic direction, Selini manages yet again to deliver an acoustic jewel, confirming her magical songwriting sensibility and evocative vocals. (Written By)
Slow Down Sonic - ‘Searching’
Bringing a whole lot of nostalgia with them, Australian pop-punk outfit SLOW DOWN SONIC champions a classically-inspired punk sound, channelling early-2000s vibe coupled with modern lyrical sensibility. It did actually start a giant throwback, at least for us, and we listened to the group while researching cultural millennia cultural staples on the internet. The result is tears, and the realisation that SDS’s latest effort, the EP ‘Depths’, is absolutely wonderful. A great record that will resonate greatly with the listener, especially the pop-punk peeps. (Written By)
